Dinh Hoa is one of mountainous districts of Thai Nguyen province with eight ethnic groups mainly Kinh, Tay and Nung. Unequal intellectual level, slow economic development, out of date farming methods, small production scale and subsistence farming are some specific characteristics of this district. The monsoon tropical climate which includes two distinct seasons, rainy and dry seasons, is a favorable condition for the development of cattle breeding. This makes great contribution to eliminate hunger, reduce poverty and improve the living standards of local people. In 2010, the total number of buffaloes, cows and goats of this district has been up to 22,000. At present, the cattle breeding is only used for plowing. They often graze grass freely in the forest. The initial steps of study show that the density and time of grazing is still at high level. In addition, the limited care and disease prevention have remarkably affected to cattle productivity as well as vegetational cover in the study area.
